Red Carpet Fashion: Academy Awards 2013

I'm still getting over how boring last night's Oscar telecast was... and how even more boring the red carpet was. *yawn* Did you guys feel the same? This recap will be short & sweet.. as I'm sure you've already seen most of these gowns...

image via

Jessica Chastain finally got it all right! A gorgeous glittering goldish-copper custom Giorgio Armani gown was the perfect choice to top off her Jessica Rabbit look. Simple hair, lots of diamonds and red lips are just the icing on the cake. L.O.V.E.

image via

Stacy Keibler has all the luck. She's got the body, the man & now access to every hot dress on the planet. I am AHB-sessing over this beaded Naeem Khan art-deco inspired gown. I mean she is a stunner and will look amazing in anything but this couldn't be a more fabulous choice.

image via

Thank you Kerry Washington for bringing some color to this red carpet! In a sea of gunmetal, black, white & light colored dresses, Kerry donned a beautiful coral-pink-red Miu Miu design. I think my favorite part is that crystal jeweled bodice. Such a bright burst of fresh air.

image via

Naomi Watts has been knocking it out of the park this whole season. I was literally gushing over her beaded asymmetrical Armani Privé dress. I adore the unique neckline and that it has this futuristic vibe going on. This is the kind of updo that I always try to do myself, but ends up as an epic fail. She's the total package that one!

image via

If anyone can chop her hair off and still look like a beautiful movie star, it would be Charlize Theron. Donning her new cropped cut (which she said was "completely freeing") she looked a statuesque goddess in her Dior Haute Couture white gown. I love the structured peplum with the crystal rhinestone detail. It would probably be an otherwise boring dress without those details. Lovely!

What did you guys think? Were you as bored with the Oscars as I was? What dresses did you like? Anyone I left off this list? Let me know! :) Happy Monday! xoxo

Red Carpet Fashion: Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

Did anyone find last night's SAG Awards kind of a giant snoozefest? And the red carpet was even more boring. Compared to the Golden Globes a few weeks ago, this was such a major letdown. By the end of the night I wasn't even tired because I felt like I had just taken an extremely long nap. Although it was an overall less than impressed evening, I do have a short but sweet roundup of my favorite looks. But I will warn you - it's not many!

image via

It's kind of hard to pick Marchesa and then not end up on the best dressed list. Naomi Watts did exactly the opposite and shot up to my #1 in this gorgeous gray lace gown by the design house. I love her old Hollywood waves and crimson lips. Totally glam. But actually one of my favorite parts is her jewelry/manicure combo:

Check out that massive FabergĂ© emerald cabochon ring & her nails! The pop of green against the grey is too fabulous!

image via
I love a good fashion risk and Marion Cotillard's totally paid off. Her white and navy two-toned Dior Haute Couture gown is spectacular. The length in the front, the pockets, the bow detail, the pleating. I literally love every single thing about it! Black pumps and Chopard diamonds kept the rest simple, basic and elegant. Love!

image via
Wait a minute - you mean to tell me this woman is 50? As in 5-0? I mean.. I don't even know what to say! Only that I hope I can look half as good as Helen Hunt when I get there. Isn't she absolutely lovely? Her slinky gunmetal Romona Keveza column gown is devine! Matching Neil Lane jewels (plus a friendship bracelet made by her daughter!) and easy curls top off an overall very pretty look.

image via
We all know just how beautiful Amanda Seyfried is. But I think this may be one of her best red carpet moments to date. This tiered, mermaid, navy gown fits her body like a glove. A very fashionable one at that. Amanda stepped out of the box with accessories and added a gorgeous lavender and jade Lorraine Schwartz pendant necklace - I love that it's so different to what we usually see.

image via
I don't hate this. But I'm not gaga over it either. I am, however, gaga over Jessica Chastain which is why I'm adding her to the list. Her red Alexander McQueen gown is a teensy bit too tight but she still looks amazeballs. Very Jessica Rabbit - which I must admit I love. Her hair and makeup is flawless - SO much better than the GG and what I have been hoping for all awards season. Thank you Jessica! Let's just hope you keep it up for the Oscars!

So what did you guys think about the SAG Awards? Were you as bored with it as I was? Did you like anyone's dress that I didn't include? Let me know!

Red Carpet Fashion: Golden Globes 2013

Ahhh the sweet smell of Awards season! I just love this time of year! Last night's Golden Globes were no disappointment in terms of Red Carpet Fashion.. I had trouble narrowing down this list which is why it's actually larger than usual. So I'll try to keep my descriptions brief and let the gorgeous gowns speak for themselves! Let's get started shall we...

Red Carpet Fashion: Academy Awards 2012

First of all - thank you to everyone who followed my live tweets for this year's awards season!! I always have so much fun and really enjoy seeing what everyone else is saying about the red carpet! I also have to give a shoutout to some lovely ladies - Katie & Melanie - who have watched all the season long with me! Now let's talk about all the looks we saw from Sunday's show! Trends were spotted and included whimsical white gowns, dazzling diamond necklaces, sequins galore and pops of pastels. My picks are littered with a few of each so let's get down to it!

Red Carpet Fashion: Golden Globes 2012

Awards season is in full swing people! Sunday I curled up on the couch with 2 girlfriends and a few bottles of wine while we anxiously awaited the Red Carpet arrivals. As we filled out our official ballots (yes we're serious award watchers) I was actually super giddy to see what everyone was going to wear. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint this year. A few trends from the carpet included blush/neutral tones, bold colors, metallics, and heavy statement jewels. In fact a few of my favs were rocking these! So let's take a look at my picks!

Red Carpet Fashion: People's Choice Awards 2012

As usual... the People's choice awards were quite the snoozefest. I guess they're just not what they used to be. Either that or I'm just coming to terms with the fact that it's mostly "Young Hollywood" where it can be rather hit or miss with the fashion picks. Either way there were just a few ladies I wanted to highlight from the red carpet (which is better than last year when I liked ZERO!) So let's check them out...

Red Carpet Fashion: Emmys 2011

This years Emmy show was quite underwhelming. A bit of a snooze-fest if you will. (although that faux beauty pageant bit during the Best Female Lead in a Comedy section was pretty great) So thank goodness the red carpet was filled with fun and fresh fashion. The color of the night was definitely red and the bold color was chosen by more than a handful of ladies. Also trending on the carpet were tons of sparkly dresses (which made me super giddy) a bit of lace and a few pops of color thrown here and there. While the latest red carpets have been some what hit or miss I fell in love with quite a few of the looks featured last night. So let's get down to my favorite picks.

Red Carpet Fashion: Grammy Awards 2011

This has been quite a disappointing red carpet year! I couldn't find one outfit from People's Choice Awards that I even remotely liked, The SAG Awards were just.. "meh" and The Emmys seemed like 100 years ago. Thankfully, The Golden Globes were a small shining beacon in this sea of red carpet wear but it wasn't that bright... I know the Grammy's are supposed to be a time when you can step out of the ordinary - something I said wasn't happening enough last year. But this year I think the celebs took it to a while other level... and it was downright scary. Leopard Hair, Egg Vessels, Heart Shaped Bedazzled wings...??? I wasn't even going to post choices from last night's awards, however I thought there were three people who weren't totally going down the path of fashion darkness... I won't be doing a poll for this post or a big write up on each outfit. Let's just hope that Oscars bring it on home - I need a Superbowl worthy red carpet here people!!!

Red Carpet Fashion: Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011

Happy Monday loveys! Yesterday we saw some gloomy weather here in L.A. but that didn't stop the celebs looking fab on the red carpet for the 2011 SAG Awards. I've been so busy that I haven't even gotten to watch the show yet... but I did stay up past my bedtime to catch up on the red carpet (obvi!) It seems like with Spring right around the corner many ladies decided they wanted to wear the colors of the rainbow. Blues, Oranges, Reds and Violets were the most picked colors (and this best supporting actress nominee's colorful choice - she can pull it off only because she's 15!). Winter white was a popular color and an up and coming trend spotted - Belts are making a comeback! Another red carpet where I wasn't super impressed but still a handful of ladies looked great. I wanted to try out a poll for this round of Red Carpet Fashion - I love hearing your thoughts too.. so vote on the poll and leave me a comment below about your fav choice!

Red Carpet Fashion: Golden Globes 2011

Ok.. Ok.. OK! I know this post is extremely late - I am sorry! Blogging has been on my mind lately - I just haven't had the time to put anything down yet! I guess it's better late than never right ;) So some of you emailed me dying to know my picks for my favorite dresses from Sunday's Golden Globes. I was honestly a little hesitant after every celebrity showed up in a disastrous outfit at last week's People's Choice Awards. I couldn't even pick one look to post about. Zero!!  Last year the Globes brought out great fashion and the show was hilarious! This year - Ricky Gervais took a few below the belt hits and the tone wasn't quite as light. But, thankfully, the fashion was still pretty damn good... So let's check out my picks! :)

Red Carpet Fashion: Emmys 2010

As summer comes to a close and Labor day approaches we finally get a breakthrough in the awards season drought - The Emmys! I myself am a big TV head and watch anything from Mad Men to 90210 to Sons of Anarchy to Top Chef (just to name a few favs). It's great that these actors, who come into our lives each week giving us laughter or tears, are honored for their work. Plus I have been missing the red carpet fashions and am so glad to get a quick fix before it goes away again. I can wait to dive in and share what looks I loved from the ladies of the small screen. We couldn't have asked for better weather here in LA on Sunday - a perfect mix of sun, warmth and a light breeze. I am sure the gentlemen in their dashing tuxedos and ladies in floor length gowns appreciate it. So let's see take a look at a few ladies who had my fav looks:

I have been a huge "Vampire Diaries" from the very beginning (read the books if you haven't!) My friend Meissa and I became obsessed from watching the first episode together and I am totally hooked. I also have a tiny girl crush on the female lead Nina Dobrev. I got to see her up close at the Young Hollywood awards last May. And Yes - she is that beautiful in real life. So it's no surprise to me that she looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet in this blush Zuhair Murad gown. I love everything about this look. Her hair and makeup? Perfection. And I am dying over those diamond earrings. But it's the dress that has really captured my heart. I am in L-O-V-E and it is ahhhh-mazing and fits her to a T. Because the color of the dress is so soft and pretty, the ruffle and lace details don't overwhelm her. Her high slit also adds a bit of sexiness without going overboard. Overall, this definitely in the running for my favorite of the night. Check out more photos of the gorg Nina below:

Love the back! And I need those chandelier earrings asap.

I am absolutely swooning over this metallic gown worn by "Dexter" star Jennifer Carpenter. It's simple, elegant and edgy all at the same time (if that's possible!) The proportions of skin to dress is absolute perfection and I love that this one shouldered look has a full sleeve instead of just sleeveless. Trains were another big trend at this year's awards and I love how this one is directly opposite her bare shoulder and arm. Plus the gunmetal color of the sequins keeps this dress from running into the Vegas territory and more in the land of edgey-glam. Jennifer knew the key to nailing this look was to keep it simple and let the dress shine (or shimmer in this case) Fuss free hair and barely there jewelry complete this fantastic look.

Jayma Mays, who plays uptight germ-a-phob counselor Emma Pillsbury on Glee, decided to go with one of the more popular colors of the night - midnight/navy blue. Her Burberry chiffon dress fits amazingly on her body and I love that this was an unexpected pick for me. The rouching and detail at the bottom is totally drawing me in. Plus with her gold accents and gorgeous strawberry blond hair the whole entire color scheme totally works. Take note ladies - this is how you do touseled locks correctly!

In the words of the amazing Rachel Zoe "Honey, I love myself a sequin" and do I ever! This Giorgio Armani Prive absolutely takes the cake for me. The second I saw it I turned to Billy and gushed "goooooorrrr-geousssss!" Claire Danes looked every bit Hollywood Glamour as she shined in this Swarovski crystal number. Love that all she needed was a sun kissed glow and a pink cocktail ring - simple and anything but understated. She was definitely a winner on and off the carpet as she picked up her statue for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie. Congrats on a great dress and nabbing the emmy too!

These last two looks are honorable mentions. I'm not in total full on love but definitely in like with both. Kyra Sedgwick looks positively glowing in her Monique Lhuiller gown. I love how everything was kept in the same color family yet strayed away from matchy-matchy. Her beautiful waves and red lips are right on trend - but I am loving those accessories she is sporting. The ruby red ring and colorful bracelets were perfect accents for her bergundy gown. Plus Kyra seems like the sweetest woman ever you can't help but be excited and happy for her anytime she wins. You know I just had to include a short dress in my picks - and surprise surprise - it's Heidi Klum. Only Heidi could rock this extremely short hemline and still look absolutely fantastic doing it. Wearing a gorgeous textured Machesa, the Project Runway host wore spikey Christian Louboutins and her usual Lorraine Schwartz jewels. I can't believe this woman has had 4 babies and still looks like she does. Check out the closeups of their gorg accessories:

Also I would like it to be known that I resisted putting January Jones' fashion forward cobalt blue dress on here. I know that everyone hated it - but I kind of loved it! But what are your thoughts on this red carpet? Did you agree with any of my picks? Is there anyone who you thought was better dressed? I would love to know! Leave your comments below in the comment section!! Happy Monday everyone!! xoxo

Red Carpet Fashion: Academy Awards 2010

Finally - it's like the Super Bowl of Red Carpet Fashion - The Academy Awards! I love that this is the night where going all out is completely acceptable and sometimes that super girly gown actually fits in with the evening. Trends this year? Metallics were definitely a huge player along with structured gowns. Also I loved the "Old Hollywood Glamour" that several ladies were showing. And a few ladies who I loved were a bit controversial on everyone else's best dressed lists... But I think they look fantastic! Oh and did anyone else love Steve and Alec's hosting job. I was in stitches the whole evening. :) So let's get to my favorite red carpet picks...

Sandra Bullock's whole look right here is very vintage, very old Hollywood Glamour and a step out for the funny woman. Although she never takes herself too seriously, last night she was just glowing. Her gold embroidered Marchesa gown fit her like a glove. She looked absolutely beautiful and gave what I think was one of the best acceptance speeches I have heard in a while. Plus I loved that the jewelry she wore was her own. Sweet and simple. Congratulations Sandy on your little gold statue and a fantastic fashion choice!

I'll admit it - I am a huge Cameron Diaz fan. Her California girl style is so laid back and chic at the same time. But I really do love her glittery Oscar de la Renta gown here. I mean why not wear Oscar to the Oscars?? I love that the bodice is tight and the skirt is perfect - not overly full/way too princessy. Rocking her trademark red lips and lightened locks she keeps everything else simple and added Cartier jewels to her look. Love Love Love! :)

Steering away from the metallic I'm diving right into one of Spring's biggest trends - prints. I am all about bright colors and Rachel McAdams hit it out of the park. Her Elie Saab Haute couture gown looks like Spring came early! I love the bodice detail - absolutely gorgeous. And even though I'm all about the drama I love that the gown is so bright that she keeps everything else simple. But check out these 145 carat Lorraine Schwartz cluster earrings:

Ah-maazzing!

Come on - Did you really think I would pick my best dressed list and not put Diane Kruger on it?? Seriously... Look... At... This. It's gorgeous! Head to toe Chanel. And not only that - but ruffled Chanel. While this was one of the controversial dresses I was referring to in the beginning, I don't care. I love it. Something that only this beautiful fashionista could pull off. And that Chanel broach she added to her Hollywood Glam updo - the icing on the cake. Diane you can do wrong in my book!

OK... I know you might be thinking I am crazy for picking this but I am in love with this dress. Zoe Saldana might just be the most gorgeous lady in Hollywood right now. She had two blockbuster movies to celebrate and this over the top Givenchy Haute Couture gown was extremely well suited for her. Playing up the latest trend, purple, the glittery bodice and ruffled bottom are an unusual combination - which I am obsessed with. It looks absolutely stunning on her. Super Couture. Super Amazing. Her Lorraine Schwartz Amethyst ring pops and adds an extra dose of purple. Simple hair and flawless makeup complete this look. Dying!!

My honorable mentions: Demi Moore and Maggie Gyllenhall. Demi left her usual blacks and navys behind and went for nude in her Atelier Versace ruffled gown. I have a feeling this might have been a push by amazing stylist Rachel Zoe. And Maggie (ever the fashion forward lady) donned a Dries Van Noten printed dress and gorgeous pink lips.

What are your thoughts on this year's red carpet? Did I forget someone who you loved? Do tell! xoxo

Red Carpet Fashion: Grammy Awards 2010

I have to admit - I was pretty underwhelmed with the fashion at the Grammys this year. On a night when it's actually ok to take those big risks I felt like a lot of the looks were either just eh, ok or they were absolutely hideous. The show itself was pretty bizarre with a mash-up of musicians performing together. Of course - Lady Gaga delivered with not one, not two but three crazy getups and she had an amazing duet with THE Sir Elton John (I don't care - I loved his bedazzled glasses and earring. I mean it's freaking ELTON JOHN!!) Beyonce had an emotional performance with her own rendition of "You Oughta Know". Taylor Swift practically butchered "Rhiannon" and the highlight of her performance for me was seeing Stevie Nicks, who is in two words - kick ass. And the Black Eyed Peas shut the house down and I think every audience member was on their feet by the end. It was an interesting night - a Grammy night if you will. And I feel like I have to lead with the most interesting fashion choices - Miss Gaga.

Love it or Hate it - The girl has got talent and style. Mr. Armani himself designed each look with Lady Gaga - and he said he was "thrilled" to do it. She's an artist and you can't deny she won't take a risk. And she just radiates confidence so it's kind of hard to not give the credit to her.

Carrie Underwood is always a stunner and usually rocks the glittery dresses. She's really been playing around with different looks this awards season and I love love LOVE this white Georges Chakra gown. I don't always love gowns on the Grammy red carpet (It's the Grammys!) but the silver leather straps make this so playful and she looks absolutely gorgeous! Of course the bride to be had to have a little shimmer and added a Swarovski crystal clutch. Plus her "semi-Rachel" hairstyle and flawless makeup keep her look fun and she is glowing. Love it!

Has Lea Michele finally hit her fashion stride this awards season? Possibly... I am obsessed with this feathered one-shouldered Romona Keveza dress. It's super fun and holy cow check out her gams! Where have her legs been hiding all this time?? Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Brian Atwood pumps round out Lea's absolutely fantastic look. Keep it up!!!

My husband loves two things in this world - pesto and Heidi Klum. I guess I kind of have a girl crush on her myself. This short sparkly Emilio Pucci dress plays up two trends - nude color and shoulders. Seal's wife showed off her fabulous post baby body, sleek hair and these amazing Jimmy Choos. Again, Lorraine Schwartz is always a perfect choice for red carpet jewelry and I am dying over this butterfly ring she rocks on her right hand.

I am kind of surprised by this pick myself. I feel like Miley Cirus always falls into that category where she tries too hard and dresses too mature for her age. She's in that weird place where she's almost an adult but not quite there yet. However her fashion choice on Sunday I thought was spot on. Her short HervĂ© LĂ©ger marbled mini-dress and black gladiator sandals are the perfect mix between rocker and chic. Statement jewelry and her signature long curly locks keep her look youthful and Grammy appropriate. Not an absolute fav but she looked fantastic.

Thoughts on the Grammys? Were you impressed or underwhelmed? Do tell!! xoxo

Costume "Mad"ness

Nominations were announced today for the 12th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. The CDG is an amazing organization dedicated to recognizing the hard work and achievements that costume designers provide for movies and television. Actors and Directors may be more widely praised for the work they do in these arenas but we can't forget how visual movies and TV shows are - after all we watch them. Costume Designers provide color, elegance and detail to what would otherwise be people talking to each other. I personally enjoy watching certain shows and movies just to look at the clothing the actors wear.
A few of the nominees I am excited about:

In the "Excellence in Period Film" category The Young Victoria designer Sandy Powell knows a thing or two about period design - she's designed for Interview with the Vampire, Gangs of New York, The Other Boleyn Girl and she won Academy Awards for her work on Shakespeare in Love and The Aviator. Set in the early 1830's the costumes that Emily Blunt (who plays Victoria of the United Kingdom) wears are absolutely fantastic. Big full skirts, lace, ribbon, lots of headwear and gorgeous jewelry are all just part of her wardrobe. Not to mention all the other men and women in the film including Rupert Friend as Prince Albert. I'm a huge fan of period pieces (Marie Antoinette anyone??) and Powell does an amazing job creating the looks for this movie. She's up against some tough comptetion - including French costume designer Catherine Leterrier for Coco Before Chanel - but she's my pick for this category.

Blunt will also be the recipient of the Swarovski Award (previously the President's Award) at the CDG ceremony.

Oh Mad Men... Where do I begin? Janie Bryant, nominated for "Outstanding Period/Fantasy Television Series", is an absolute wardrobe genius. The shift dresses, floral patterns, sweater sets, even Betty's equestrian wear are pure fashion gorgeousness. Plus can the men on that show look any hotter in those suits?? Bryant has said the inspirations for her 60's designs are Grace Kelly, Cary Grant and Jayne Mansfield; which is pretty obvious with the elegant Betty and sultry siren Joan. Bryant is also coming out with a style book which I personally can't wait to get my hands on. Perhaps some of the 60's colors that are featured in the show have provided inspiration for actual red carpet gowns (ahem - mustard anyone?) Even I purchased a Mad Men-esque dress complete with a floral pattern of purples, blues, greens and mustards. There's no denying that Bryant's designs have certainly sparked a 60's revival and isn't that what fashion is all about?

You can view the full list of nominations here. The CDG Awards will be held on February 17th at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.

Red Carpet Fashion: Screen Actors Guild Awards 2010

Thank goodness the Sunshine decided to make an appearance this weekend at the SAG awards. We've been getting rain non-stop (although I was enjoying it a little bit!) and Saturday was the first peak of sun in 6 days. As with any rainstorm, the sunshine brought a rainbow of colors that headed straight to the red carpet. Bright greens, purples, reds, whites and (finally) hardly any black (yay!) So let's get started with my absolute top favorite pick (I'll give you one guess who you think it is....)

Oh Diane Kruger....Is it normal that I have become this fashion obsessed with you?? This look is absolutely killing me! This one shoulder/off the shoulder mustard colored gown was made especially for her by Jason Wu. Her coral lips and braided hair tie up the whole look and she's full on Hollywood Glamour. Although it is reminiscent of one of my all time favorite red carpet looks I still have to give it to her - she's totally knocked it out of the park. Plus she's wearing vintage Harry Winston. And they're rubies. ahhh!

My mother and I will always and forever be Kyra Sedgwick fans - and for those of you who haven't ever seen The Closer - you are missing out! Her cream body conscious Vera Wang gown has a hint of the monochromatic trend we saw at the People's Choice Awards. I am loving the ruffles, the gray sheer band hits and hugs in all the right places and that broach is just the icing on the cake. Add in her upswept hair and lavender makeup and Kyra looks less bridal and more red carpet gorgeousness.

I think it's safe to say everyone is a "Gleek" at this point. But Lea Michele looked nothing like a slushy faced geek in her green Catherine Malandrino gown. Lea has played around with a lot of looks this award season (like last week's princess dress - yikes!) but this is definitely her best choice by far. The plunging v-neck, banded waist and ruffled sleeves are fabulous. And even though I've been loving the shorter curls lately - her long locks round out this va-va voom look. From total geek to totally chic!

Kate Hudson is usually a fashion fav but I was getting worried when she showed up at the globes wearing this structured Marchesa. However she certainly delivered Saturday in this backless Emilio Pucci floor length dress. And she's got the posing down pat. She dropped the black eyeliner going with a softer eye and natural curls. Kate is also literally dripping in jewels as she's wearing $1.75 million in Cartier jewelry (loving that sautoir necklace!). Plus the addition of the side jewel keeps her dress from being too boring taking it from Plane Jane to Fashion Forward.

Woah Dynasty - and I mean that in the best way possible. I am loving Sandra Bullock's Alexander McQueen dress - She looks amazing! Even though it's black, that bright blue on the top just pops out. I love that she kind of stepped outside the relm of red carpet gowns and the SAG awards was the perfect opportunity to do that. It was a perfect fit for her body and I love that her hair is pulled back and her makeup looks fresh. Overall Sandy got it right!

Did you have a favorite red carpet look? Do tell! :)
