New Obsession: dress Raleigh Resale Boutique

After we made the move to Raleigh, I have to admit I was kind of nervous about shopping. I know that sounds silly and I don't mean to sound snobbish, but there were so many cute boutiques in LA that I frequented. I knew I'd be able to find items that were unique, different and pieces that not everyone would have.

Well, I've been pleasantly surprised by several stores here in Raleigh. One of them being dress, an upscale resale boutique. And ladies, let me just tell you... the owner, Pam Mullaney, has some of the best taste I've ever seen. dress is a fabulous concept - born from both Pam's love for fashion, and a desire to give women the option of dressing not only well, but at an affordable price point. Something I think we can all appreciate, am I right? In other words, it's the perfect mix of new and like-new. You can even buy straight from her social media pages. Yes, really! Initially starting out on eBay, Pam's business has now evolved to a gorgeous space on Wade Avenue in Ridgewood Shopping Center (I mean check out those lights!) The front section of the store consists of new merchandise. Items that are on trend, unique and at super budget friendly prices.

The rest of the store is pre-owned designer clothing. And let me just tell you... Pam knows what she's doing. She doesn't just buy anything that comes through her door. She's crafted an amazing inventory, which to be honest, doesn't stay on the racks too long before it gets snatched up. Her everyday brands include J.Crew, DVF, Zara, Calypso St. Barts, Tory Burch, Rag & Bone, Tibi, Missoni, Vince... the list goes on! Let's discuss what to wear to an interview... This used to always be a dreaded outfit for me. It's stressful enough trying to land a job on your credentials, but looking the part is important too! For me, I want to look professional and put together. But at the same time I want my personality to show through. I recently went in for a job interview and this is exactly what I wore (well minus the sunnies of course!) Here's 5 reasons why it works:

1. My dress is length appropriate (which is apparently a struggle for some ladies) It hits above the knee and below the thigh which to me is the "sweet spot length" because it's not too short and not too long. It's juuuuust right.

2. My dress FITS. I cannot say enough how important this is when interviewing. Remember you're trying to make a great first impression here. If your outfit is too tight or too baggy it might send the wrong message (either I like to party it up or I don't care enough about this job to find something that fits) Even if you have to take it to a tailor - do it. I promise you it will make a world of a difference.

3. It's not black. Now, this isn't like a requirement or anything - black is certainly appropriate and okay for interviews. But I like the Navy color because it's not traditionally black. Plus it adds a splash of color without being overly flashy.  

4. To me, pumps are always a smart shoe choice. I decided to wear a printed pair which helps shows off my fun and whimsical side, but the shape of the shoe still says "I'm serious!"

5. Lastly, keep accessories to a minimum. I usually pick a [smaller size] statement necklace, a few bangles and a watch. That's about all you need. Sure you may be like me and like to wear 543693 bracelets, but meeting a potential boss is not the time or the place. If you talk with your hands (as most people do) they're too distracting and loud. 

(Psssst.. I added my favorite carry-all my from Sole Society because it holds my portfolio and notebook so I'm not forced to walk around the office like a highschooler with a binder clutched to my chest.)

We're almost to the end of the week everyone! I can't WAIT for this week to be O-V-E-R! It just means I'm one step closer to my #BADinNOLA trip happening next weekend! One of my best friends and roommates from college is getting married in August and all the gals are heading to Louisiana for 4 days to celebrate the bride to be!

You bet these uh-mazing Sole Society sandals are coming with me. I love the color (like a light Radiant Orchid) and thought they'd be perfect with this Vintage dress for a night out. I've actually been able to wear these shoes with denim shorts, dresses and pants too! Talk about versatility. Oh and guess what - they also come in 2 other colors, gray and nude. House of Landor Vintage Finds

One of my favorite parts of moving back to Raleigh was befriending Mary Beth over at House of Landor. MB & I instantly connected over our love and appreciation for fabulous food, delicious drinks & vintage clothing. She's got the most amazing eye and finds the most gorgeous pieces you've ever seen. I sported this blazer from her collection and I bought the most amazing Lanvin dress from her a few months ago.

This past Saturday I got to play in her new arrivals (like grown up dress up!) I was so excited about her new pieces that I asked her to send me the photos she took so I could share them with you! Here's a few of the ah-mazing dresses she's currently got for sale (either in person at Finds or on her Etsy page!)

At first glance this looks like a dress - but surprise! It's a gorgeous PANTSUIT. And one of the comfiest things I've EVER worn.

This dress made me feel like a celebrity... Hands down one of the most beautiful pieces I've EVER seen.

My favorite part about vintage is that there's always a story to tell. This dress is so impeccably well made it's insane. The beadwork alone is worth it!

Words can't even describe how obsessed with this piece I am. Embroidery on the top, bottom, sleeves and back means there's no area left undone. SO gorg!

Sometimes a gal just needs an ostrich feather cuffed dress. How amazing would this look as a mini/mod-inspired dress?!

This mint brocade number is everything!!! The prettiest color you ever did see!

Whatever you do, don't buy this dress. I want it all for myself! How STUNNING is the skirt?! My favorite part is the top - such a beautifully cut V-neck that shows curves in all the right (instead of wrong) places

A fab hemline, bedazzled appliques and perfect pockets. What more does a gal need?

I feel like since I've moved here - we've had nothing but dreary weather. It's either been ridiculously cool or raining cats & dogs. Luckily my mom and I snapped these during lunch when the rain finally took a break (for 15 minutes)

 

Whoever said you can't wear sequins in the daytime obviously never met me. As you know my motto is "wear something sparkly everyday" and yesterday was no exception! I decided to beat the drizzle with this fab sequin top and a bright pink bow. I mean you can't not smile when you see either - right?

 

Plus let's discuss my new favorite Belliza Knight earrings! Aren't they gorg? The yellow enamel flowers are from the 1920's (eeeeeeek!) Then the rest is handmade by a brilliant designer - Brinker. My mom & I fell in love with her vintage inspired creations when we attended her jewelry sale last week. You've GOT to check her pieces out - I promise you won't be disappointed.

Looks like the Jacky crashed our photo shoot! Dude may be old, but at least he can appreciate a good floral pump! After a meeting, Billy & I went for a little afternoon stroll and I thought we could snap some photos with our Boo-Boo. Turns out live props are more difficult than they look! ;)

This vintage dress was another fab buy, costing only $5! It's one of those pieces that I wear for the office or professional meetings but can also be dressed up for date night. This time, I paired it with a fun patterned shoe and statement necklace. I am loving print mixing right now but this look lets the shoe be the center of attention. Easy, peasy & affordable.
