Outfit Post: Chambray + Poncho

We're almost to the weekend people! I'm so excited that I don't even care that it's Thursday. This outfit is all about layering (more layering!) for spring. A chambray shirt is so incredible versatile. If you don't own at least one right now, you need one immediately! Don't worry, I've scoped out a few options for you to shop and listed them below.

I recnetly saw a blogger wearing a light wash denim shirt and I can't stop thinking about it. I think it might be next up on my list!

Outfit Post: Sweater for Spring

I know I should be posting about wearing green today... but I've been too crazed to plan ahead. Thankfully I'll be wearing green today so check my instagram to see!

Maybe it's just me, but a pair of mirrored aviators just make me feel sassy. I LOVE them. 

These ankle booties are seriously the greatest. Not only do they go with almost everything, but they are so comfortable. Yes they're an investment piece, but they will last and are worth every penny.

I'm back and yes, I'm wearing a sweater. So sue me. The weather here in NC is so crazy (70 degrees one day, 38 the next) So while, spring is supposedly on its way, you'll be seeing a few sweaters here and there over the next few weeks. The truth is, I'm a sweater lover, even in the early spring days. Grab a pair of shorts and a cute pair of flats and you've got a fabulous transition outfit.

I took myself on a date last month and wore this. Sometimes a girl just needs a comfy sweater and a great pair of boots for dinner and a movie. Have you taken yourself on a date lately? It's so nice to do every now and then. No phones, No husband. No friends. Just you! It's kind of liberating honestly.

Outfit Post: But First, Coffee... and Booties

These days my daily uniform has consisted of skinny jeans, oversize sweaters and ankle boots. It's the only thing that is keeping my stylish and warm during these cooler days! Luckily, I've added these gorgeous Trask lace up wedge boots to my collection. They've been a staple ever since I got them!

Thanks to everyone who came out last week to the Fashion Documentary screening and Q&A panel session afterwards! It was SO MUCH fun and a BIG thanks to Deborah for inviting me to be a part of it! I always love speaking to groups and talking about fashion, so it was an overall amazing night. Hopefully there will be events like that to come in 2015. Stay tuned for a mini re-cap and photos.

Today's #BADxGameDay outfit is a 90's inspired one. Which actually doubles perfectly for October weather. Sometimes it can be hard to dress for College Game Day when the afternoons are in the upper 70's but then the evenings are in the 50's. This flannel tied around my waist was perfect while spending time outside before last week's insanely, crazy, ridiculous Notre Dame game. My OCJ Apparel tank top kept me nice and cool in the sun. But once it got dark and the temps dropped, I was able to wrap that flannel around me and keep me nice and cozy.

pssssst. Denim on Denim is no longer a no-no. But how do you wear it? Just keep your denim shades totally different. This outfit works because my chambray top is very light and my jeans are a dark rinse. What do you think?

I'm not sure if it was the fact that I was headed to the NC State Fair on Sunday - but something just made me want to throw on Denim on Denim, sport my new boots and eat an obscene amount of fair food (like whoa). If anyone tries to tell you Fried Mac-n-Cheese isn't amazing, then they haven't really lived.

These Frye ankle booties are my new jam. Would you believe me if I told you I've never owned a pair of Frye's before? Shocking, I know. Well color me happy, because I never want to take these babies off my feet. How did I not know how comfy they could be? I'd rather not focus on how many years I've wasted of not wearing Frye Boots. From now on, I only want to think about how many pairs I can add to my closet (the answer is 1 million.. obviously)

Outfit Post: What To Wear To An Interview

Let's discuss what to wear to an interview... This used to always be a dreaded outfit for me. It's stressful enough trying to land a job on your credentials, but looking the part is important too! For me, I want to look professional and put together. But at the same time I want my personality to show through. I recently went in for a job interview and this is exactly what I wore (well minus the sunnies of course!) Here's 5 reasons why it works:

1. My dress is length appropriate (which is apparently a struggle for some ladies) It hits above the knee and below the thigh which to me is the "sweet spot length" because it's not too short and not too long. It's juuuuust right.

2. My dress FITS. I cannot say enough how important this is when interviewing. Remember you're trying to make a great first impression here. If your outfit is too tight or too baggy it might send the wrong message (either I like to party it up or I don't care enough about this job to find something that fits) Even if you have to take it to a tailor - do it. I promise you it will make a world of a difference.

3. It's not black. Now, this isn't like a requirement or anything - black is certainly appropriate and okay for interviews. But I like the Navy color because it's not traditionally black. Plus it adds a splash of color without being overly flashy.  

4. To me, pumps are always a smart shoe choice. I decided to wear a printed pair which helps shows off my fun and whimsical side, but the shape of the shoe still says "I'm serious!"

5. Lastly, keep accessories to a minimum. I usually pick a [smaller size] statement necklace, a few bangles and a watch. That's about all you need. Sure you may be like me and like to wear 543693 bracelets, but meeting a potential boss is not the time or the place. If you talk with your hands (as most people do) they're too distracting and loud. 

(Psssst.. I added my favorite carry-all my from Sole Society because it holds my portfolio and notebook so I'm not forced to walk around the office like a highschooler with a binder clutched to my chest.)
