Pinspiration: Overalls

I can't even believe I'm typing this post. When this trend began to emerge again I thought "There is NO WAY I am ever wearing those again" Well Nikki, better open wide because I'm about to eat a huge mouthful of my words. Read My Lips: I've fallen in love with the Overalls Trend. However, the new versions that I'm referring to aren't your typical pair of 90's dunagrees. For 2014 it's all about skinny legs and slimmer fits. I've rounded up a few pinspiration photos with ideas on how to rock this style as well as some super rad options for you to shop. You know, for when you're ready to dive back into the overalls pool. Let's go through them together shall we?

Now these dark denim overalls are definitely a piece any lady can get behind. The darker the rinse and the skinnier the leg, the more modern they look!

Love the idea of black denim in the form of overalls - the cute sneakers & gingham button up are icing on the cake!

If you're not sure about the overalls trend, maybe try a different material than denim. This maroon leather option, paired with a printed top and statement necklace, keep the outfit fun and fresh.

If you're wanting to sport a pair in a lighter wash, use tailored and feminine pieces to revamp an otherwise casual ensemble. The use of a structured bag, polka dot blouse and forest green pumps, like above, are ideal for a patchwork distressed pair of overalls.

I adore the idea of a chambray tied around the waist - so 90's, yes I know. Pepper in chic accessories like cognac ankle booties and a striped long sleeve to transform your look from flat out nostalgia to fabulously reminiscent.

This last look is one of my favorites. Combine rinses with an ombré light to dark pair then top off with lots of sparkling jewelry and metallic pumps. Again, notice the slim cut leg? Makes the entire outfit seem much cleaner and more put together.

I absolutely love Thanksgiving. The parades, the football, the food, the family... It's always a super fun and relaxing holiday. Which is exactly why you shouldn't stress out too much about your outfit. Let's focus on keeping your ensemble casual and chic. Chances are you'll be spending most of the day sitting, crafting, stuffing your face and enjoying life so you'll want to be as comfortable as possible.

 

Enter my 2 ideal Thanksgiving outfits. Leggings let your tummy expand after your umpteenth helping while sequin sweatpants make you feel as if you're wearing pajamas. Fancy pajamas that is. You can never go wrong with chambray or a detailed sweater - both items give you a cozy but put together vibe. If you want to go on the glam side try a pointy toe pump. Add some glittering accessories and you are all set to celebrate Turkey day!

I've been eyeing graphic tees for a while now but haven't fallen in love with one yet.. until now. This ILY Couture one is cheeky and cute! (Pssttt... it also comes in black) So I came up with three ways I'd style it if I could get my hands on it.

 

For a more "Glam" ensemble, I'd dress up the tee with a sequin skirt and the perfect strappy sandals. I've also got a new obsession with transparent clutches - this metallic box option is so fabulous!

 

I run a lot of errands during the weekend so I like to stay comfy and stylish. Enter my favorite shoe in the entire world - the ankle bootie! Add a worn in pair of cutoffs and my new favorite bag - GiGi New York's "Elle" crossbody - and you've got the perfect "off-duty" look.

 

Who doesn't love a jeans-and-tee combo? I certainly do! And if they're boyfriend jeans - all the better (Express makes my favorite ones!) These glitter pointed toe pumps and blush envelope clutch finish the outfit off with a crisp yet stylish attitude.

Whenever I think about adding a new piece of clothing to my closet, I try to come up with at least 3 different ways to wear it before I purchase it. It's super important to try and make your pieces as versatile as possible in order to push your wardrobe further. Take for instance this white VFish dress from Twelve Saturdays. When I first saw it, I had trouble trying to decide if I should style it for a night out or daytime. White it does have a slim fit, the A-line skirt hits mid-thigh making it ladylike. That's when I realized why not show both options!

 

This scalloped neck frock is the perfect piece to take you from board room meetings to happy hour cocktails with no problem. To make it office appropriate, I paired it with a black tuxedo blazer and bright cap toe pumps. My ILY Couture Pia handbag is the perfect add on for not only my black and white theme, but it holds everything from my camera, agenda and notebooks for meetings.

 

Fast forward to 6 PM when I meet my friends for Martini Wednesday. I throw my hair up in a bouncy pony, slip on a jeweled necklace, and strap on my fav lace up sandals. But you guys know I can't survive without color. So with a swipe of hot pink lipstick and a watercolor box clutch, I've instantly brought a flirty and fun element to my look. Just by switching out a few accessories and your shoes you can transition almost any look from day to night!

I told you about the Real Girl Style Challenge earlier this week and it's here! Amber asked myself along with 5 other bloggers to help launch this challenge and I am so excited to share my look as well as the other ladies'!

 

My white tee is truly 1 of my core staples in my wardrobe. It can be worn with almost anything. But 1 of my favorite ways to style it is just super simple. You don't need much, just your favorite pair of jeans, a good pair of flats and 1 piece of statement jewelry. I personally think this look is casual but still chic. And it's something you could wear to the grocery or for a movie date with your love.

 

I also like to mix it up a bit with jewelry and accessories. The gold and rose gold clutch metals don't clash, but actually work together. Gone are the days of sticking with just silver or just gold! I topped my look off with air-dried natural locks and red lips.

 

So my advice for how to style your white tee? Pair it with your favorite items and go! Keep it simple and easy on you. Now I can't wait to see how you style your tee - come link up with us!!

This is the second outfit in my "How To Wear" series featuring these glitter pumps. They're so cute, right?

 

The first look I posted was to prove you can wear sparkles in a casual way. But, I wanted to dress them up for our second installment. I want to keep my shoes the main focus so it was the perfect excuse to bust out my new favorite dress. It's solid colored and has small details like a sweet peplum hem and cap sleeves. This whole outfit offers a feminine vibe without being over the top girly. My nude clutch and rhinestone bracelet help tie everything together!

 

If you're a bit nervous about sparkly shoes, just remember: you don't have to "over style." Keep it simple, wear a smile & you'll look amazing - no matter what! After posting about these festive sparkling babies from Sole Society last week, a few of you lovelies commented about how you weren't sure if you could rock them... I personally think that any girl would look amazing wearing glitter shoes - no matter what! But it got me thinking... and I came up with an idea for a new series called "How To Wear." I'll showcase different ways to pull off a trend that will bring versatility to that item and prove that anyone can add it it to their closet. I hope this will inspire you to dive deep and maybe step outside your comfort zone to try something new! Let's get started shall we??

The combination of Sparkly Shoes, Jeans & a Blazer is one of my personal go-to looks. It's super easy, semi-casual & so much fun. Plus, what gal doesn't own a blazer & a white tee? Most times I wear a skinnier jean, but I love the relaxed fit of boyfriend denim (especially when I'm busy enjoying fall-ish food!) A bonus to this outfit? Hello! You're in your favorite jeans and a comfy tee! But, the blazer and heels lend an edge of fancy without trying too hard. A colored clutch & a messy pony completes our first look for sparkly shoes!

Okay.. so I know what you might be thinking.. where can you wear this look? How about a causal date night or drinks with friends? I've worn very similar looks to church before and an almost carbon copy of the above to a salon opening in Hollywood. In all honesty - you could sport it almost anywhere! In fact, while we were shooting this, a woman passed by and said "Great Shoes!" It couldn't have been more perfect timing.

My new favorite trend: Animal Print Sweaters! They've been popping up all over the designer labels this past year with everything from foxes to owls to birds. And what could probably once qualify for an "Ugly blank Sweater Party" is now considered super cutesy, thankfully :) Plus there are finally some awesome affordable choices available like this Sequin Fox or this Adorable Bulldog one. I grabbed this Pink Fox from Target during my trip home. But, truth be told, I'm searching for a sure-to-be-made-fun-of Jack Russell one (Don't judge! I love my Jacky!)

 

These sweaters are SO fabulous with denim/leggings and boots, but I wanted to dress mine up a little bit. I've had this jacquard/brocade skirt for forever and since this fabric is hot! hot! hot! right now, I thought it would be the perfect pairing. After adding in the heels and my new favorite knuckle clutch, it kind of upped the ante of this adorable fox. But thankfully my next day hair doesn't make it too dressy and more me. What do you think??

This outfit is special. Okay, not really the outfit per se, but the pieces themselves. I've had this tunic dress for a long time, dare I say, it was actually my 21st birthday dress. The shoes - my rehearsal dinner shoes! Having not worn either item in a very long time, I was excited to shop my closet and pair them together.

 

I was challenged by Ma Nouvelle Mode to color block and instead of doing the usual top/bottom, I went with a dress/accessory color block. Sure it's bright, but I am loving bold colors right now (who am I kidding - I love them all the time!) Plus, I want to take full advantage before we head into fall!

 

P.S. isn't this the prettiest street? It's probably one of Bill's favorites - doesn't it look like the palm trees go on for forever?
